Pressure cookers: what to buy, what to skip (2026)

Shopping for a pressure cooker on Amazon.in? This hub collects every pressure cooker Buyrskip has checked and sorts them the only way that matters: buy it, or skip it. 3 of the 4 models here earn a straight buy; the rest are worth considering only in some homes. Pressure cookers compared on material, capacity, safety valves and induction compatibility, for dal, rice and rajma every day.

What decides it

Material: stainless steel lasts longest and works on induction; hard-anodised aluminium cooks evenly and stays dark. Capacity: 3 litres for 2 to 3 people, 5 litres for a family of four, 7 litres or more for large families. Safety: ISI mark, a metallic safety plug and a gasket release system are must-haves.

The models we would buy

Start with the Prestige Svachh Stainless Steel 5 L: deep lid that controls spillage on induction and gas. The Hawkins Contura Hard Anodised 3 L is the better buy if you cook for two or three people and want even heating. Usual prices run from ₹899 to ₹4,299. See the full buy-or-skip list or the head-to-head Prestige Svachh Stainless Steel 5 L vs Hawkins Contura Hard Anodised 3 L.

Buying a pressure cooker in India

Pressure cookers are under compulsory BIS certification in India: only buy models with the ISI mark and check that spare gaskets and whistles are easy to find. Prices on Amazon.in move in a pattern. The deepest cuts land in the Great Indian Festival (around Navratri and Diwali), Prime Day in July and the Republic Day sale in January, usually with extra bank-card discounts and no-cost EMI. Judge a deal against the usual price we show, never against the MRP.

Quick answers

Steel or aluminium? Steel is more durable and induction-friendly; hard-anodised aluminium heats faster and resists staining. Plain aluminium is cheapest but wears out sooner. How often should I replace the gasket? Every 6 to 12 months for daily use, or whenever steam leaks around the lid.

Order from Amazon itself or the brand's own storefront so the India warranty applies, keep the GST invoice and register the product with the brand straight away. For ACs, geysers, chimneys and purifiers, ask whether installation and the demo visit are free before you pay.

How we make the call: we read spec sheets, manuals and warranty terms, check how good the service network is in India and track the usual Amazon.in price. A product gets “Buy” only if we would tell a friend to buy it at that price. Brands cannot pay for a verdict.
