Smartphones: what to buy, what to skip (2026)

Shopping for a smartphone on Amazon.in? This hub collects every smartphone Buyrskip has checked and sorts them the only way that matters: buy it, or skip it. 10 of the 17 models here earn a straight buy; the rest are worth considering only in some homes. The best phones you can buy in India right now, from budget 5G phones to flagships, compared on camera, performance, battery and software updates.

What decides it

Updates: choose a phone with at least 3 to 4 years of Android updates for security and resale value. Battery: 5,000 mAh or more gets most people through a full day of heavy use. 5G: check support for the bands used by Jio and Airtel (n78 and n28 at minimum).

The models we would buy

Start with the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra: best-in-class zoom camera and S Pen. The Apple iPhone 17 Pro is the better buy if you use an iPhone or Mac and want Apple's best cameras and video. Usual prices run from ₹9,500 to ₹1,45,000. See the full buy-or-skip list or the head-to-head Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra vs Apple iPhone 17 Pro.

Buying a smartphone in India

Look for bank offers and exchange bonuses during sales, and buy from the brand store or Amazon itself to avoid grey-market phones with no India warranty. Prices on Amazon.in move in a pattern. The deepest cuts land in the Great Indian Festival (around Navratri and Diwali), Prime Day in July and the Republic Day sale in January, usually with extra bank-card discounts and no-cost EMI. Judge a deal against the usual price we show, never against the MRP.

Quick answers

How much should I spend on a phone? For most people, ₹15,000 to ₹30,000 buys a phone that lasts 3 to 4 years. Flagships add better cameras and longer updates. Is a 5G phone necessary? Most new phones are 5G anyway; make sure yours supports the bands your operator uses.

Order from Amazon itself or the brand's own storefront so the India warranty applies, keep the GST invoice and register the product with the brand straight away. For ACs, geysers, chimneys and purifiers, ask whether installation and the demo visit are free before you pay.

How we make the call: we read spec sheets, manuals and warranty terms, check how good the service network is in India and track the usual Amazon.in price. A product gets “Buy” only if we would tell a friend to buy it at that price. Brands cannot pay for a verdict.
