Gaming consoles: what to buy, what to skip (2026)

Shopping for a gaming console on Amazon.in? This hub collects every gaming console Buyrskip has checked and sorts them the only way that matters: buy it, or skip it. 1 of the 3 models here earn a straight buy; the rest are worth considering only in some homes. PlayStation and Xbox consoles compared on games, price and value in India.

What decides it

Games: exclusives decide most purchases, so pick the platform your friends and favourite games are on. Subscriptions: PS Plus and Game Pass offer large libraries at regional prices. Storage: 1 TB fills fast; check expansion options.

The models we would buy

Start with the Sony PlayStation 5 Slim: huge library and exclusive games. The Nintendo Switch OLED is the better buy if you want family games and handheld play. Usual prices run from ₹29,999 to ₹55,000. See the full buy-or-skip list or the head-to-head Sony PlayStation 5 Slim vs Nintendo Switch OLED.

Buying a gaming console in India

Indian regional pricing makes PS Plus and Game Pass cheaper than in many countries; digital games often drop in seasonal sales. Prices on Amazon.in move in a pattern. The deepest cuts land in the Great Indian Festival (around Navratri and Diwali), Prime Day in July and the Republic Day sale in January, usually with extra bank-card discounts and no-cost EMI. Judge a deal against the usual price we show, never against the MRP.

Quick answers

PS5 or Xbox Series X? The PS5 has more popular exclusives in India; Xbox Game Pass gives the best value library. Is the Nintendo Switch officially available in India? It is sold through importers and Amazon sellers; check the warranty terms before buying.

Order from Amazon itself or the brand's own storefront so the India warranty applies, keep the GST invoice and register the product with the brand straight away. For ACs, geysers, chimneys and purifiers, ask whether installation and the demo visit are free before you pay.

How we make the call: we read spec sheets, manuals and warranty terms, check how good the service network is in India and track the usual Amazon.in price. A product gets “Buy” only if we would tell a friend to buy it at that price. Brands cannot pay for a verdict.
